PRESS RELEASE

Today, on 12.04.2009, the officers of Air Intelligence Unit while keeping surveillance over the passengers arrived from Dubai by Air India Express flight IX-344, intercepted one passenger by name Shri.Adiyanthotty Abdulkhader Ibrahim, S/o.Late Abdul Khader Adiyanthotty Abdulla, Fahad Manzil, Bedira, Vidyanagar.P.O, Kasaragod - 671123 holding Indian Passport No.G2805103.  The passenger opted for green channel was intercepted at the exit gate while walking out. On suspicion, his baggage was taken up for detailed examination and was found to contain 14 packets of Golpeech (Bunch) Saffron each weighting 500 grams totally weighing 7 Kgs. The approximate value is estimated at Rs.13 lakh International value and Rs.17 lakh Market value.  As the pax has not declared the goods and the goods are in commercial quantity, the same have been seized for adjudication.

The seizure was made by Shri K.Salil, Intelligence Officer keeping surveillance at the arrival baggage hall under the supervision of Shri V.M.Rajeshekharan Nair, Superintendent (Intelligence) and under the direction of Shri C.K.Sasidharan Nair I.R.S, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Calicut International Airport . The following intelligence officers also participated in the recovery and further investigation of the case.

Preliminary investigation conducted in this regard reveals that a major gang operating in Kasaragod area is behind the racket. Further investigations are on.
